Shelley A. Cole
Dr. Cole’s research interests span human and non-human primate research.
In humans, she is involved in genetic epidemiological studies of inherited risk factors for developing common, complex diseases. This highly collaborative work partners with minority population groups that have very high rates of metabolic and other diseases yet are traditionally under-represented in genetic and medical research. Dr. Cole has more than 30 years of expertise studying human genetics.
Dr. Cole also co-leads efforts to maintain colony genetic diversity in the three non-human primate colonies housed at the Southwest National Primate Research Center (SNPRC). The goal of this approach is to minimize inbreeding and preserve the long-term health of the colonies.
