Mahmoud Bayoumi, Ph.D.
Mahmoud graduated from the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine at Cairo University, Egypt. He earned his master's degree in the Virology Department of the same faculty. During his master's degree, he gained valuable experience working with various viruses, including the influenza virus, as well as different expression systems and molecular biology methods. In 2019, he joined the Munir Lab at Lancaster University, UK, to commence his PhD project on viral epitranscriptomics. In this field, he studied the impact of m6A, one of the most critical posttranscriptional modifications, on influenza virus replication. After completing his Ph.D., Mahmoud worked as a virology lecturer at the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine at Cairo University (from 2023- present). Currently, Mahmoud Bayoumi is working as a postdoctoral scientist at the Martinez-Sorbido Lab, Texas Biomedical Research Institute (since Feb. 2024), where he is involved in a broad range of vaccine development and antiviral therapies.
