Postdoctoral Scientist

Shahrzad holds a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) degree and earned her Ph.D. in Microbiology and Immunology from Cornell University. She has extensive research experience in virology, molecular biology, and the use of animal models to study infectious diseases. Her work has focused on understanding virus–host interactions, immune responses, and the development of novel vaccine platforms for pandemic potential pathogens, including SARS-CoV-2, Nipah, Hendra and Ebola viruses. Her research interests center on applying reverse genetics systems and innovative attenuation strategies to advance vaccine design, while also investigating virus–host interactions, viral pathogenicity, and tissue tropism, with the goal of informing antiviral therapeutic development.
