Ms. Paula A. Pino Tamayo completed her M.Sc. in Biomedical Sciences at University of Antioquia, (Medellín, Colombia) in 2007 participating in tuberculosis research such as tuberculous meningitis in Medellín, Colombia (Corporación para Investigaciones Biológicas, CIB) and pulmonary tuberculosis in diabetic patients at the US-Mexico border (The University of Texas Health Science Center Houston). She has also participated in other scientific fields such as neuroinflammation (The University of Texas at San Antonio, 2010-2012) and paracoccidioidomycosis (CIB, 2012-2016). In 2016, she returned to the tuberculosis field to characterize Mycobacterium tuberculosis mutants looking for potential targets for therapeutic approaches (Department of Microbiology and Immunology at Weill Cornell Medicine, New York). In 2018, she joined Dr. Torrelles laboratory and the Population Health Program at Texas Biomed to develop animal models for analyzing the lung tissue under physiological conditions (oxidative status during the aging process) and under pathological/infectious conditions (tuberculosis and COVID-19).
