Mr. Garcia-Vilanova obtained his degree in Clinical and Biomedical Laboratory from the ‘Institut Bonanova’ in Barcelona. He joined Texas Biomed in 2017 and Dr. Torrelles laboratory in 2019. His current research focuses on understanding physiological changes that occur during aging and other comorbidities, such as HIV and diabetes, and that contribute to increased susceptibility to infectious diseases. His research has special emphasis on the proteomic profiling of the lung. He is also interested in finding strategies to tackle cellular aging. He spends his time in the laboratory performing in vitro and in vivo studies related to M. tuberculosis and SARS-CoV-2 infection, analyzing biological data from different human populations, and assisting other members of the laboratory with their own research. For his future research, he envisions creating preventive strategies to reduce infectious disease susceptibility, with emphasis on aging susceptibility. He is also the current IRB coordinator and biorepository manager for the laboratory.
