Dr. Juan Ignacio García
Dr. Juan Ignacio García received his Ph.D. in Methodology of Biomedical Research and Public Health from the Autonomous University of Barcelona in 2020. During his Ph.D. studies, he worked in Guatemala and Mozambique implementing operational research projects aiming to improve HIV/TB diagnosis in rural health care settings. He joined Dr. Torrelles laboratory at Texas Biomed in 2020, and coordinates two diagnostic accuracy studies in Mozambique and Democratic Republic of Congo, using agar-based phenotypic drug susceptibility testing (DST) to improve TB diagnosis and treatment follow-up. While in the laboratory, he performs in vitro studies related to M. tuberculosis drug susceptibility, and supervises data analysis of the ongoing diagnostic accuracy studies. When traveling, he performs field evaluation visits to determine the needs and gaps of the studies. He is committed to provide affordable and accurate TB diagnostics to vulnerable populations in resource-constrained settings having as an ultimate goal, to eliminate TB and its catastrophic costs to human beings.
