I’m originally from Coahuila, Mexico, but have lived in San Antonio for most of my life. I recently graduated from UTSA with a BS in biomedical engineering just last year and am currently pursuing an MS in the same field. I was very fortunate to join Texas Biomed as a Research Assistant in the Schlesinger lab last summer, where I’ve been able to contribute to the study of M. tb and its interaction with macrophages. As a trainee who started with basic research experience, I’ve been able to expand my understanding of research and techniques, through the ongoing guidance of my mentors in the lab. I’ve also been able to take advantage of the great opportunities offered at Texas Biomed which include leadership training, joining the Texas Biomed Association of Trainees, presenting at local conferences, volunteer work, and overall, being a part of a welcoming community at Texas Biomed on top of the everyday science. My favorite thing about our lab is the there is always open communication, guidance and opportunities to work on multiple projects.
