Zaina Chagani is a research fellow in the American Cancer Society (ACS) Post-Baccalaureate Research Program at Texas Biomed. She attained her B.S degree in Chemistry from Agnes Scott College in Atlanta, Georgia where she also conducted her undergraduate research based on examining the efficacy of naturally derived compounds as selective Cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2) inhibitors for treating inflammatory diseases using molecular docking studies. As a part of Larry Schlesinger's lab, she is currently investigating the role of NR4A nuclear receptors in treating infectious diseases such as tuberculosis (TB) and hematological cancers such as acute myeloid leukemia (AML) through host-directed therapy. She plans to expand her career in scientific research by attending graduate school in the future with a focus in drug development, cancer immunology, and medicinal chemistry.
