Neal is a computational biologist specializing in the population genetics of parasites and pathogen surveillance. He’s currently using whole genome, population-level datasets to examine hybridization between a human (Schistosoma haematobium) and livestock (S. bovis) blood flukes. Initial results from his analysis indicates traits may be transferred (introgressed) between both species with direct implications for human health.
